One of Historical Gates in Seoul
Downtown Tour in Seoul
Matt and I went to Dong Dae Moon Design Plaza. Dong Dae Moon(東大門) means the big east gate and one of the eight historical gates located in the Fortress Wall of Seoul that built between 1396 and 1398. There was a baseball stadium built in 1925 beside of it and one of big public market around stadium before. Now instead of old stadium, the futuristic building called Dong Dae Moon Design Plaza opened on March 2014 is standing there. I still remember a lot of sports gear stores and fashion merchandises store around stadium back in 80's.
I wanted check how it looked like with my boy.
I wanted take a few picture of the gate, but it was under repairing.
We were disappointed.
Dong Dae Moon Design Plaza was so big and could not find a good spot to take the picture of whole construction. Anyhow, there was a display showing some of it.
Cool!
There was new signage using beamers on the ceiling. It looked cool and didn't need to be displayed the flat panel only. But we were kind of disappointed that there was not much to look around but stores. Some shows cost us much money than we expected.
We decided go upstairs with the spiral path to top top level.
Finally he got his own digital camera and took some pictures of me and something he was interested in.
Another picture of me again! He snatched my hat and put his hat on me.
He was just happy to spend time with me, I hoped.
Some stools with stone, twisted straw, and wood top on the way. We believed these weren't to be seated because these were so hard to take a rest. You would feel pain in your bum if you seated for a while. We thought most of stuff in the plaza was focused on design, not comfort.
:(
On the outside there was an egg shaped art work.
We decided to take a funny picture with it and this was the one. A kid was trying to have a big metal egg. Lol :)
He was so interested in historical stuff especially the gates in the Fortress Wall, so we made a promise to go and see the north gate next time. :)
